In Kind Donations
Although Legal Aid Works® is a nonprofit, we still have all of the overhead and legal expenses of a law firm while continuing to provide top level legal expertise to the underprivileged. This presents an interesting challenge, as it takes additional funding to cover office supply basics – which accounts for a large funding gap in our budget. We appreciate any non-monetary, in-kind donations that individuals and private businesses can provide to help us cover the cost of everyday operating expenses. These donations help cover a portion of the operating costs, allowing us to extend scarce resources even further, thus allowing more people to benefit from our services.
Our current wish list includes:
- Office equipment (late model scanners, laptops, printers, shredders, copiers)
- Office supplies (ink, paper, etc.)
- High-dollar items to sell at our silent auction/raffle fundraisers
Legal Aid Works® is a 501(C )(3) nonprofit organization and is also certified to offer tax credits under the Virginia Neighborhood Assistance Act (NAP). Legal Aid Works® is registered as a charitable organization under the Virginia Solicitation of Contributions Law; a financial statement is available from the State Division of Consumer Affairs in the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services upon request.
Pro Bono and monetary donations are tax deductible under federal law. In addition, annual monetary and in kind donations such as pro bono services, office space and office equipment donations of $1,000 or more may entitle the donor to a 65% state income tax credit against business state tax liability. Pro Bono attorney representation is valued at $125 per hour for purposes of state income tax credits. Individual personal monetary donations between $500 and a maximum of $125,000 may also qualify for a 65% tax credit against an individual’s state income tax liability. For more information about the NAP tax credits, email Katerina Vollten, Development Director, or call (540) 371-1105. For information on NAP pro bono service tax credits, please email Kelly Evans, Pro Bono Coordinator, or call (540) 371-1105.
Private and in kind donations over the years have helped sustain Legal Aid Works® daily operations. We deeply appreciate the generosity of individuals and organizations in the communities we serve.
